Description
The Black ZZ Plant is a staple in most homes and offices around the world. It's an evergreen plant pruned to be displayed as foliage that has very dark green- almost black- colored leaves. The ZZ plant is also known as the "ZZ Monster" and for good reason. This foliage houseplant is hard to kill and can survive in some of the strictest conditions by thriving off just minimal sunlight, water, and well-drained soil. Even many indoor plants watered only once a week will start to wither away in comparison.
Zamioculcas zamiifolia, commonly known as the ZZ plant, is an aroid of the family Araceae native to eastern Africa from Kenya south to north-eastern South Africa. It is best grown in warm temperatures below 85 degrees F. Lamps that emit full spectrum light are recommended for winter growing, for maximum colour contrast between leaves and stem. In its native habitat of coastal tropical Eastern Africa, it is found growing in widely varying soils in a rain forest type environment. It’s a beautiful plant with spectacular black leaves which you can grow at home. It's readily available in the market because it’s excellent for filtering your living space of harmful toxins such as formaldehyde, carbon monoxide and trichloroethylene. It’s mildly poisonous if ingested, so keep away from children and pets.
