Description
Morphanki or Thuja trees are evergreen and exceptionally fast-growing trees in the cypress family. The bark of an older specimen is thick, reddish-brown and furrowed into long narrow plates. Younger branches have flat scale-like leaves that are arranged symmetrically (in two sets), making a distinctive diamond-shape pattern on the branch. The flowers are bell-shaped, 3 to 4 mm long and violet inside with streaks of pale violet pollen, produced in spring on panicles 15 to 25 mm long that resemble cones. They are pollinated by insects.
