Description

Coleus is a genus of flowering plants that are popular in indoor gardening for the brightly colored foliage. Foliage is the preferred term for the leaves of seedlings and young plants; it is, however, also applied to many succulent species as well as some non-succulent woody species, because their leaves are important for identification. They are usually grown from either seed or from cuttings. Coleus can be used indoors with proper sunlight and have red, pink, violet blue or purple variegated leaves. They are easy to grow but they need water regularly. Rainbow coleus is an incredibly versatile plant. It can be used almost anywhere and look great. This variety of coleus features a wide selection of colors to choose from. Some common colors include reds, pinks, greens and purples. However, this variety also includes many shades that are much more unusual such as cream and dark maroon. These plants are very hardy and will withstand temperatures as low -20 degrees C/ -4 degrees F, making them easy-care year round plants in most areas. Coleus grows best in a garden bed but they can be grown in large pots or hanging baskets on sunny patios too (you'll just want to bring the potted plants indoors before frost). You may need to do some reading so that you will know exactly how many plants to purchase for your particular project. One thing that should be noted is that it does take a little bit of time for these plants to really thrive so don't expect instant results.
